Know Jesus?

Step 1: Understand God and our relationship to Him.
Question: Who is God?

The simple truth is that there is a God who created you and loves you very much. He gave us life and deserves our gratitude and love.

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
Psalms 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.”
Step 2: Understand Sin and Judgment.
God created us in His own image to have an abundant life. He did not make us as robots to automatically love and obey Him. God gave us a will and a freedom of choice.

We, however, have chosen to disobey Him and sin (we choose our will over God’s). All of us have failed to obey God. The degree of our disobedience does not matter.

Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it…”
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
Step 3: Understand Jesus.
God is perfect and completely good, He cannot tolerate sin; He is just. He cannot simply overlook the fact that we have chosen to disobey Him. The Bible says “the wages of sin is death.” This means that we deserve death or separation from God for eternity because of our sin.

Jesus, the one and only Son of God, came to earth and lived a perfect sinless life. He was the perfect sacrifice God required to pay for man’s sin.

Jesus was crucified even though He was completely innocent, receiving the punishment that we deserved.

John 3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
Ephesians 1:7 “He is so rich in kindness that he purchased our freedom through the blood of his Son, and our sins are forgiven.”
Step 4: Understand Salvation.
People have tried in many ways to find God.

God clearly gave us a sign when Jesus died on the Cross and rose from the grave. Jesus bridged the gap created between us and God by sin.

Jesus died for you and me.

We need to believe and understand that our sin has separated us from God and that our only hope is found in Jesus.

But, we need to do more than believe in God, we need to receive Jesus personally and repent of our sin. We need to make Him the Lord of our life and seek to live our lives in obedience to His word.

1 Timothy 2:5 “For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; ”
1 Peter 3:18 “Finally, [be ye] all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, [be] pitiful, [be] courteous:”
Revelation 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
Step 5: Commitment.
Question: Where do you stand?

If you were to die today would you go to heaven?

Do you want to know God?

Are you willing to receive God’s gift, the gift of his Son, Jesus Christ?

Here is how you can receive Christ:

  1. Admit your need (I am a sinner).
  2. Be willing to turn from your sins (repent).
  3. Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the Cross and rose from the grave.
  4. Through prayer, invite Jesus Christ to come in and control your life through the Holy Spirit. (Receive Him as Lord and Savior.)

How to Pray:

Dear Lord Jesus,

I know that I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness. I believe that You died for my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I now invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as Lord and Savior.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

If you sincerely believe what you have just prayed, the Bible declares you are saved!

Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Step 6: Did you sincerely ask Jesus Christ to come into your life?
It is important for you to grow in your relationship with Jesus. Just like any relationship, you need to spend time with someone if you want to know them better.  The best way to know God is through the Bible. It is important to find a Bible-teaching church to attend. This will allow you to talk with a pastor who will help explain questions you might have, and it will give you a chance to spend time with other Christians who can encourage you.

Know that the moment you received Jesus, God placed within you His Holy Spirit. God loves you and has forgiven you and will never forsake you.

Now is the time to trust Him! Ask God for direction and support. Tell someone about your commitment to Jesus and start being obedient by reading His Word daily.

Galatians 5:13 “For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only [use] not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.”
Philippians 1:6 “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform [it] until the day of Jesus Christ:”
Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
